variance_avx2: fix implicit conversion warnings

w/clang -fsanitize=integer quiets warnings of the form:
implicit conversion from type 'unsigned int' of value 4294964733
(32-bit, unsigned) to type 'int' changed the value to -2563 (32-bit,
signed)
